Tesco grant awarded to Sherwell Valley
We are delighted to announce that Sherwell Valley Primary School has bagged £12,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, having come first place in the local round of voting. A big thank you to all of you who helped us win by voting with those little red tokens.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative, which saw grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects. Voting ran in store from 27 February until 6 March – with customers choosing which group they’d like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out in store. Tesco estimated that around eight million votes were cast in stores across the UK.
Now that the results have been announced we will begin work on bringing our projects to life. We intend to use the grant to develop our school grounds; to compost our food waste; to create several pollinator friendly gardens; to construct an area suitable for keeping school chickens and to provide areas where children can immerse themselves in the outdoors in a fun and educational way.
