Scotty’s Hot Boxes!

On Monday we had a visit from Nicky Scott, co-ordinator of the Devon Community Composting Network. He brought with him three Scotty’s Hot Boxes, that were paid for with a grant awarded to the school by Devon County Council and also part funded by the FOSV (thank you).

The Hot Boxes are large compost bins that will initially enable us to turn our fruit and vegetable waste into compost. We will use this around the school grounds. This is the first part of a larger project to eventually compost all the school’s food waste on-site, using a larger composting system.

Nicky started the morning by leading a fascinating assembly for the KS2 children all about compost, how it’s made and all about the bacteria that live in it. He then helped to assemble the Hot Boxes and place them in their new home behind the KS1 assembly hall.
