Boys & Girls 5/6 Football

Our year 5/6 boys and girls football teams competed in the Southern Area National League Finals in Woking, London.

On tournament day, both teams got off to a fantastic start in the group stages, securing passage to the semi-finals of the competition. The girls team put in a solid display against a very physical Southend team, coming out on top after finishing 1-1 at full time and winning on penalties. The boys also put in an incredible performance, knocking out Maidenhead 2-0 with one of the best team goals seen at this level. This meant that both teams had now
qualified for the final, with the winner playing at Wembley on the day of the National League play-off final. The girls final finished 0-0 and went to penalties. Unfortunately, the girls weren’t able to take that final step and bowed out as runners-up, missing out on the chance to play at Wembley. Unfortunately, this was also the case for the boys, who lost 1-0 in their final to Hemel despite a very even encounter. Both teams were absolutely incredible and did themselves and Sherwell Valley proud. The children may remember this as the time they nearly made it to Wembley, but we will remember it as the time Sherwell Valley went toe to toe with the best teams throughout the entire Southern part of the country and left with their heads very much held proudly high!
