Governors

Governors play an important part in the life of the school – this is mainly strategic; setting policy, monitoring progress, supporting staff and challenging where necessary. This is sometimes described as being a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher.

It is important to understand that it is the role of the Head Teacher and his staff to run the school on a day-to-day basis. As Chairman of Governors I work closely with the Headteacher to ensure the success of the school.

Governors are unpaid volunteers who come from a range of backgrounds. They contribute their knowledge, skills and experience for the benefit of the school.

All governors are appointed by the Governing Body.  A skills audit is carried out and matched to the needs of the Board.

In addition to being part of one or more committees governors also take responsibility for a subject area. Performing this aspect of the role involves meeting with the teacher who leads this subject developing specialist knowledge and monitoring performance.

In this section of the website you’ll be able to download details of the different types of governors, our current governors and the committee structure.
